That's actually a very ON topic concept - how to automatically generate valid
part numbers. Well organized organizations have "rules" by which part #s are
generated but I have never seen this implemented in software. Your co-worker
might be wanting to use a placeholder part number and then convert it to an
approved part # at a later date once the correct assigned number is known.
I've thought about this with regards to MANMAN but I haven't come up with any
solid ideas. Any very clever MANMAN (or other MRP) people have any ideas?
