Well, we are under way. I got a ST318275LC and an LW just in case....

Initially it gave me a fright - after fitting replacement disc, an SEA showed the new 18GB drive fine. Did a bo alt off an on site TA store=/ , and got the warnings as before - C7f0 and C5F0....tried a couple of SEA , same result. Then tried the BO ALT from an SLT I brought with me from home.....came up OK, and went into the install. Since the new ldev 1 was an 18gb, where the original discs were 2 x 9gb, I thought I might as well leave ldev 2 out for now, and maybe do the newvol stuff later.

Then I started doing system directory and related restores, and Then I noticed that ldev 2 was showing activity......could it be that because it still had its volume label, it was part of the disc pool,, and being used as normal? Can this cause me grief because of confusion about where the used space is? Can it have lost space on it ?

Thanks all for your help and suggestions, especially Tracy for pics of the drive cage - exactly as you showed. Only hiccup was working out how to remove the cage, and then find a Torx bit the right size to remove the disc, and then a smaller one to swap the 80pin to 68 pin adaptor...
