I thought as much, but it is always the wiser course to seek the
advice of those better versed in the arcane than to proceed solely
on the basis of ones own ignorance.

I am going to order a couple of the ST318416N drives today but I am
still going to pick at getting this ComPaq drive and adapter
working, if only to prove to myself whether it is possible or not,
and what needs to be done to get it to work if so. If I ever do
figure it out I will summarize the results to the list.

I would like to thank all those who responded with comments,
suggestions and advice. Your assistance was invaluable while the
degree of co-operation and interest exhibited quite heartening to
observe. I would particularly like to thank Chuck Shimada and
Craig Lalley, both of whom went to the extraordinary effort of
calling me at my office and guiding me through various approaches
in my attempts to get this to work.

Regards,
Jim
