Friday morning I move the mouse to get the hard drive and screen going and
hear a noise that can only come from the power supply. Dead. I think I'll
just go to Fry's or CompUSA and buy another - only to discover that the
power supply to this 4430 is smaller - and nothing "generic" will fit.

So I call the 208 number in Idaho for Pavilions - and when I finally get
though all the voice mail garbage - the person switches me to the parts
ordering people - only to find that they are 16 miles up the road in
Roseville.

Then I learn that this part has been superseded - I guess a few have failed
;-) - and that there are no new ones in inventory.

"When would I get one?" - the woman doesn't know, but if I order one now at
$65 I can call in 2-3 days to see when they are coming in. Which I do.

I got an interesting twist on this inventory problem from a fellow on a car
list - and he said that HP deliberately let their inventory go to make their
books look better in the proxy fight.

You know building your own makes a lot of sense these days...

Bill
