: Dear Listers,

: I have been asked if Java is available for the HP3000 platform.

You betcha. For JDK 1.1 releases, we've actually usually been one
of the first platforms to release new versions as they are made
available by JavaSoft.

: I believe that I have seen posts of this nature in the recent past.
: If someone could forward me the information regarding Java I would be
: forever grateful. :>

: Where can I get a copy?

On Jazz: http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/java
or on the Interex freeware tape (http://www.interex.org, then I'm not
sure the path from there -- just follow the links).

: Is there a web site to visit for more informantion?

The jazz site mentioned above. There's also a SIG JAVA
mailing list, although it has been rather quiet of late.
Instructions on subscribing are available on Jazz or at
the Interex web site.

: If Java has been ported, are there any gotchas?

The AWT is still sluggish; I'd recommend sticking to
server-side applications, and running any user interface code on
your PC, Mac, or Workstation. You may want to check the archives
(or email me) for the procedure to convert classes.zip to a
bytestream file; this will dramatically improve performance of
the classloader. (This fix will be incorporated into the
JDK 1.1.4 distribution, which will show up on Jazz as soon as
I have time to package it and upload the files).

: I look forward to hearing from you.

: Thank you,
