Hi Wirt,

I gotta say, (and I understand that my opinion may not count for much) but
this is one of the most infantile things I have EVER heard. If you were
truly informed as to General Powell's role in this entire situation, then
not only would you still support him, you'd have a heck of a lot more
respect for the man you WOULD have voted into the Oval Office.

Powell opposed the War with Iraq for some VERY solid reasons. However, when
it became obvious to him that war was inevitable he rallied behind his
President and advised him properly. He rallied for international support. He
did his level best to ensure that if there was a war it would be as
bloodless a conflict as possible. He has probably done more for the
preservation of life in Iraq than any single human being on the face of the
earth.

I think you should look into the term "Integrity" and see what terms are
associated with it. Here are a couple to get you started:

Responsibility
Honour
Duty
Obligation
Loyalty
Respect

I completely fail to see how a Retired General of the US Army could do
anything BUT act the way Mr. Powell has. Asking him not to would be a
violation of every fibre of his being.

But hey, I'm just a silly Canuck, WhaDoINo? But if you won't support him for
President, can we have him for Prime Minister? He'd look good in Red! hehehe

Let me say that Colin Powell has been my greatest disappointment in all of
this. Prior to his joining the current administration, I was one of his most
ardent supporters. I strongly felt that it was his duty to run for
President,
if not only for the reason that he was among the most eminently qualified,
but that he would also put "blackness" behind us, in the same manner that
Kennedy put Catholicism to rest as a test for who and who isn't acceptable
to
the American people for the office of President.

Although many people credit Powell with bringing a sense of rationality and
balance to the current administration, regrettably I would no longer vote
for
him. He has sacrificed his integrity at the cost of being a "good soldier."

As for Whitman, she seems to be a genuinely decent person, but she does seem
to have a much higher tolerance for humiliation that I would in a similar
situation.
