The last week I updated the O.S. version. I have now MPE/XL 5.0.
Telnet and FTP client are running Ok but my problem is with FTP server.
I start FTP server streaming JFTPSTRT.ARPA.SYS job and I have the correct
NET files (Files that go in NET.SYS) but when I try ftp from another host, the
result is this:

220 HP ARPA FTP Server [A0007I08] (C) Hewlett-Packard Co. 1990
Name (hp957:victor): manager.sys
331 Password required for MANAGER.SYS. Syntax: userpass
Password:
530 User log on unsuccessful
Login failed.
Remote system type is MPE/iX.

The error message indicates to me that the FTP monitor process is being invoked
as: run ftpmon;info="password", which implies that in order to connect to the
HP3000 using FTP the mpe user id that is being used MUST have a password. The
error also indicates that you apparently do *not* have a password against the
manager.sys user.

If I try connect from the same host, the result is this:

MPE XL: FTP.ARPA.SYS HP957
File Transfer Protocol [A0007G07] (C) Hewlett-Packard Co. 1990
Cannot connect to host: hp957.hg.vhebron.es (146.219.10.28) (FTPERR 9)
DESTINATION UNREACHABLE. (SOCKERR 116)
ftp>

Now the above seems to indicate that the 'loopback' option of the network
services is *not* enabled. As part of your start up do you issue the
command: 'NETCONTROL START;NET=LOOP' ?.

Hope this helps.
