No-one ever made 256mb SIMMS for the 9x7. The highest density was
256mb kits which are 2x128mb SIMMS.

When you buy from them you are buying new-parts that they manufacture
and since these are very unique parts they will command a higher
price. They have lower density memory for the 9x7 that is cheaper.
You pay a premium for this special density.

Also, they don't have these in stock and would have to do a
manufacturing
run to make some. That also contributes to the higher price.

Remember the rule of supply and demand. HP3000 Server memory was never
as high
a volume product as commodity server or desktop memory so the prices are
already going to be higher.

But in the day of 9x7 memory being able to get 256mb for < $500 was a
pretty sweet deal given other prices (especially HP).

Your best bet is to find someone with used-parts that work. I'm sure
there
are lots of 9x7 systems just waiting to be scavenged for the memory :-)
