Chris,

A couple of things to check are:

1. Do you have the WORKGROUP parameter in the [global] section of
smb.conf set to the same workgroup your NT PC's are set to?
2. If you have a non-blank Scope ID set in your TCP-IP configuration
on the NT PC (this applies to Win95 as well), then will cause other
hosts (without that same "scope") to be bypassed. There is a switch
you can supposedly set (I haven't tried) in nmbd to recognize the
scope. That is '-i scopeid'. If you really don't need a scope id set
for the PC's, then get rid of it and not worry about your servers.
3. Make sure your 'interfaces=' parameter in the [global] section
is set correctly (if you have it in there at all). If you have multiple
LAN cards, or use a subnet, Samba may not correctly determine
the broadcast address.

Good Luck,
Michael L Gueterman

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] Dancing the SAMBA !

Thanks to all (Lars, Michael, Bruce) who responded to my samba questions.

The cr/lf stuff is no big deal, most MPE programs don't seem to mind an extra CR
as far as I can see. And WINWORD does not mind a missing CR, so what's my problem ;-)

nmbd under inetd seems to work, though I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
I'm still not able to find the hp3000 with 'Find Computer' on the NT box (can't
find my HPUX box either, though drive mappings to both machines work fine). Ah well,
better go and reread the fine man pages at http://samba.canberra.edu.au/pub/samba/...

Best regards
