Wayne,

I have seen documentation of a piece of the oracle product that allows the
use of ODBC's. I would assume that you could do something like:

CREATE TABLE orders AS
SELECT * FROM odbc_source_table;

Which would create a new table with the same characteristics as the table
referred to in the odbc connected table. I've done stuff like that using MS
Access and attaching to external tables. This would allow you to create and
populate your oracle database from image. We are on Oracle 8.1.5 the ODBC
feature came out in 8.1.7.

I could go on and on about the features but suffice it to say that TOAD was
a well thought out product with all the features to get a novice going and
plenty of good stuff for the seasoned veteran as well.

The "wartless" TOAD?!? I'll try and catch myself a demo copy....

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on a data dictionary type creature that
could be used to feed some sort of SQL database creation / management
process? DICTIONARY/3000 for Windows and/or Linux and various SQL databases
is pretty much what I have wanting.
