Robert

I think what you are looking for is RECORD MODE.
This will take what comes to the terminal and
pass it thru to the printer. I do not know the
correct escape sequence, but I feel that this
is what DataNOW! is doing.

Subject: Follow up to 'COBOL to local printer?

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll pass them on.

All the suggestions followed the same concept, display to the screen,
and log that to the printer. I understand that idea, but was hoping for
one that did not include sending large reports to a screen. We
currently have a third party report writer, DataNOW!, that has an option
in the report to selection of 'XP' for eXternal Printer. This does not
display on the screen, although it does display a message before and
after to let you know what it is doing. I was hoping for much the same
kind of solution from within a COBOL program.

The problem is that we have sites doing entry and generating reports all
over the world. Some are larger, but some are one man operations.
Dedicated printer ports on the 3000 seem to be problematic. I'm not a
hardware type, but I believe it is related to speed, and a requirement
for a more dedicated line type solution. Most are coming in now by
phone modems through their local internet providers. Tough to tie a
printer to a modem.

Thanks!
