Guys,
I like the short-cut a lot (maybe). Can I simply do a restore if the
disc drives that are becoming the volume set are part of the existing system
volume set? I thought I would have to do a reload? BTW, I plan on doing
two back-ups.

Good plan, and by all means make provisions to do that if necessary.
But you can short-cut this considerably:
:store @[log in to unmask];*t;purge
:restore *t;@[log in to unmask];volset=new_volume_set;create

I would do two stores. Purge the accounts that will be going to the
private volumes before doing the buldjob1 and use olddate on the restore.
