A wonderful netizen (who shall remain anonymous, as a spam prevention
measure) wrote in email to me:
The one I am most familiar with is the FASTRAN-PC product that
Nick Demos & Co. at Performance Software Group put together.
IIRC, with some limitations it supported writing Transact code and
running as FASTRAN programs on the PC. To do this they had to put
together a package that emulated not only parts of MPE, but also
IMAGE. Again IIRC, the MPE and IMAGE emulations could be run
    separately from Transact.

Thanks,
Christopher
