My impression of this is that while it keeps a 'copy' in RAM as much as
possible, MPE is VERY concerned about the saftey of your data and will
always try to write it to disk.  The exception to this is message file.
Message file are not meant to last for very long; and as FIFO type files,
to have the contents distructivly read in a very short time.  MPE will
try not to write these records to the disk.
