In response to requests to keep y'all posted on
IPROF-97 as soon as info is available, I post the
following initial program details (still subject to
possible revision):

(1) Looks like it's still going to be called IPROF. I
didn't get the final totals, but I believe the vote on
changing the name at HP World was pretty much
a landslide for "don't".

(2) The following SIGs have indicated that they
plan to meet at IPROF-97:

ALLBASE, IMAGE, JAVA, OMNIDEX, WEB,
COBOL, RAPID, MPE, SYSMAN, VPLUS,
SOFTVEND, CLIENT-SERVER, CONSULT.

I.e.: 13 so far. I don't expect many (and perhaps not
any) additions to the above SIG list... One notable
SIG that met at previous IPROF's but is not on the
list yet for 97 is SIGNETWORKING. Especially
because there are still a lot of active networking
issues, I was sort of looking for SIGNETWORKING
to sign up again, but it hasn't happened yet. If the
Chair of SIGNETWORKING might still be interested
in holding a meeting at IPROF-97, please contact
me or Leah Robertson at Interex (800-468-3739) as
soon as possible.... Belive SIGNETWORKING
was poorly attended by users at HP World (but well
attended by HP), but I think that was mostly because
of popular conflicting sessions. Speaking just as
another user, I don't want HP to get the impression
that users don't care about networking anymore....

Guess I'm sort of asking SIGNETWORKING: Are
you SURE you don't want to meet ??... If the answer
still ends up being no, hopefully networking issues
can still be covered fairly well between SIGMPE,
SIGSYSMAN, SIGWEB, and SIGCLIENT-SERVER..

In any case, 13 SIGs even without SIGUNIX (believe
SIGUNIX has decided to meet at or in conjunction
with INTERWORKS from now on), which is two more
than last year. With the departure of SIGUNIX, it looks
like all IPROF SIGs will have either an exclusive or at
least significant interest in MPE - based products or
operations..

Also note that by consensus of the attendees at the
Client-Server roundtable at HP World - Anaheim, we
are going to try and add a Client-Server Roundtable
at IPROF, along with the usual Management R.T.

Plus if enough people sign up on the registration
form, there will be another hp3000-L dinner, so that
all the usual suspects that attend IPROF can get
another opportunity for a little more social face time.
Plus expect there will be at least one general
reception in there some where..

Right now looks like we are going to try and squeeze
all of the above into four full days. It would have been
nice to go five days to maximize conflict avoidance,
but the cost in $$ and time starts to get prohibitive.
With careful scheduling, I hope most people will agree
that four full days is a good middleground.

No, I don't have dates / location info yet.... Soon, I
think... Stand by.
