Wirt's articles from the Geological Society of America were both interesting
and informative. I am always amazed and saddened by the number of things
there are to know and how few I ever will know. Knowing people that know or
know where to find knowledge helps narrow my "knowledge gap." Thank you
Wirt.
As for Wirt's second posting in this thread he makes a very salient point.
There have always been those that would twist knowledge. I will not try to
assign a reason to their actions though I am sure the disciples of Freud
would have a field day with the subject. The point is that revisionist
history is all around us. We never went to the moon, there was no mass
slaughter of Jews, Gypsies or JWs by the Nazis, the Arabs willing left
Israel in 1948 or we have always been at war with Oceania.
If Satayana is correct then the revisionist historians are the biggest
terrorists.
Regarding Denys' comments all I can say is he should stop watching ABC. Dan
Rather, of CBS, mentioned the outrage felt by many at the memorial service
turned political rally. My local NBC affiliate mentioned it. NPR carried it
and even interviewed Gov. Ventura. (I don't watch the local ABC only because
they are in a coastal city and their weather does not reflect what is
happening in my neck of the woods.) The point is many members of the
mainstream media mentioned all aspects of the issue.
Do not get me wrong. I am glad that there still are people that believe that
others can be perfect. Denys obviously believes this because he believes
that "the liberals" are perfectly wrong. ;-^)
