So what's the HPe3000, really ? A hardware platform (PA-RISC), plus an
Operating System (MPE), plus a marketing program.

Well, the death sentence of the HPe3000 by HP is mostly the death sentence
of a non-existent marketing program.

The hardware is still available - it's called a 9000, but who cares ? It's
been mostly the same as a 3000 anyway, and it's been since the inception of
PA-RISC.

The operating system *could* get another lifetime if the OpenMPE initiative
flies. Useless to say, I ardently, fervently support this initiative as an
individual.

So what's worse ? Letting MPE slowly die at the hands of HP due to lack of
interest ? Or reviving it at the hands of an entity dedicated to it ? In
fact, the "death sentence" could easily be the "Flight of the Phoenix".
