Haven't we significantly altered almost every society we have "helped"? I'm not a trekkie, but, the prime directive might make a lot of sense relative to underdeveloped or unexposed societies. Problem is, because of human nature (yes, I subscribe to genetics and natural selection being partially responsible for many of humankinds failings - how unpopular of me), in many cases, if we Americans don't subvert them, someone else will soon be along to do it their way. Wow, what an apologist for imperialism I must sound like.
