Craig D. Lansing replies to a message about integrating MPE and
various UNIX systems by saying that 'The 9000's tend to run with
less operator intervention for longer periods of time' vs. the 3000.
I don't know what he is doing with the 3000, but the only thing our
operators do here is mount backup tapes a do the occasional DTC port
reset.

He also states he is not sure if the POSIX version supports ftp and
telnet. As seen previously on this list, both ftp and outbound
telnet will be available.

One other thing he mentions is that the 3000 does not support X terminals.
This is correct. That is one thing I personally would like to see.
We here at Boeing are working on what is termed the STAC (Single
Terminal Access Capability) process. The idea is that all terminals
would be X or X-compliant PCs, and all operating systems would be
accessible from that one terminal, with a window for each logon. The
3000's deficiency in this area leaves us somewhat behind the curve in
this process.

What do you say, HP? Any others interested in seeing this happen?

I know the thoughts expressed here are my own because no one else would claim
them!
