The PDC update procedures will vary (slightly) according to which 
member of the HP3000 family the system belongs to.

Generally,  you would perform an boot from the tape containing the 
PDC update image (ie: BOOT ALT), then, at the ISL prompt, you would:

  ISL> ODE
ODE> UPDATE

For a A/N-class 3k, you would also BOOT ALT from the tape device 
containing the PDC update image, then at the ISL prompt:

ISL> ODE
ODE> FUPDATE
FUPDATE> UPDATE

BTW, one of the main problems with the 918 1.2 PDC is that ODE MAPPER 
hangs. Version 1.3 fixes that problem.
