A couple of months ago, IBM held a briefing at their Executive Briefing
center. Present 29 developers who are from the HP 3000 MPE world. This was
not a publicized event. Those in attendance were invited by me. The
meeting was prompted by request made by friends and acquaintances of mine
who were curious about the iSeries. We were all interested in what the
iSeries was and how good a candidate it was to replace the HP 3000. IBM
rolled out the red carpet. We spent two very intense days in a relatively
free form meeting with IBM technical types and were thoroughly impressed
with the product. John Burke wrote an article for the HP 3000 Newswire
describing the event. A byproduct of that meeting was a special offer from
IBM for this class.

For the last two months we have been porting our migration toolset to the
iSeries under sponsorship from IBM and their migration partner Sector7. We
demonstrated the prototype to IBM yesterday. A key person in the success of
the port of this toolset is Bob Bittner of IBM. He will be the instructor
for the class. Moreover, I will help him with the class, my background is
HP 3000 MPE, UNIX and Windows. This is a prototype of a class that IBM
hopes to offer on a regular basis.

Hope that helps.

Charles,

I went to the WEB addresses last night for the IBM Fast Track iSeries
classes you sent me, and noted two things of interest/concern.

1). The language classes (offered on the 4th day) were geared towards C,
C++ and JAVA (I saw no mention of COBOL or even RPG); the mention of
previous OS knowledge referred to NT and UNIX. No where did I see anything
that referred, in any way, to MPE, hp, 3k, or any other reference that
would associate the class with "IBM is offering a fast track iSeries
introduction class for MPE programmers ".

2). I did not find any 'event code' or other area where I could enter some
info to receive the 50% discount you mentioned.

I did go ahead and register for the 3 day seminar on the premise that I may
have missed something.

Can you enlighten me/us more?

Thanks,

Ray Shahan
