Jim,

Maybe the functionality you seek doesn't exist within FTP but you could:

1 Have a local file with the same name as your 3K's trigger file reside on your unix box.
2 Read the timestamp from this file. 
3 Attempt to overwrite it by downloading it from the 3K. 
4 Exit the ftp session and compare the two timestaps.
