I was wondering if there are any commercial/free implementations of Kerberos
for the MPE OS. We currently are running V.40 and plan on going to 5.0 in
March.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The good news: there is a free implementation of Kerberos available. You can
get the source code & build it yourself! If you want it in binary form for
MPE, you'll have to find a company that offers an MPE implementation of it.
I think that Digital is offering Kerberos commercially (not sure about MPE).

I can help you to find the source code distribution of Kerberos, but I can't
really give you any tips for getting it up and running in the MPE world.
I haven't worked with MPE for over two years now... Last time was at
M.B. Foster Associates -- hi Brian, Birket, and Mark!

The source code can be found at the following anonymous ftp site:
        athena-dist.mit.edu
in the /pub/kerberos directory. README files will point you in the
right direction.

Note that Kerberos Version 5 is currently a "beta" software product. I think
the latest version is V5 beta 4. At any rate, you'll want to get the latest
patchlevel of beta 4.

Note that the documentation for V5 is nonexistent. All of the documentation
contained in the distribution pertains the the widely used Kerberos V4.
So, as you can imagine, it's not just a matter of compiling the software.
Next, you'll have to figure out how the heck it works! But, I may be
able to help if you get that far...
