Greetings,

Environment: HP e3000/979-400 running MPE/iX 6.5 (plus reactive patches) and
HP supported Samba/iX 2.0.7

We have on occasion seen, in Glance, the CPU% on Samba jump into the 90's.
Investigations have revealed that this occurs when one of our batch PC
applications reports an error and then terminates while it is reading a file
on our e3000. The only way to clear it is to abort the Samba job and then
restream it.

My gut feeling is that the PC application is not closing the e3000 file
properly before terminating and thus Samba is not aware that it has finished
with the file.

Before I log this as a fault with the PC software vendor I am trying to get
somebody to confirm my suspicions. Any takers?

regards,
