Hi, Randy

1977 with MPE II, right?,

The HPe3k proven to me deliver solid data all the time.
so to me, client/server is a HPe3K IMAGE with an MS Office products
link by an ODBC/32.

In the Server side most database intense process, or business logic on the HPe3k.
The Client/presentation layer with a graphic look on the local PC programs
(like the MS Office products).

You could either
1.dump the proven solid DB engine or
2. adapt non proven client-server products with headache or
3. stay with proven DB engine with GUI front-end facelift (like the MS Office products) with the ODBC/32.

Just need some imagination...

Cheers
Peter C.

I was just wondering what your opinion of the future of the HP3000 series.
I have been on it since 1977 and truly love the system. I have seen it
decline in the 90s as it was replaced by "better" systems (mostly
client-server). In the past year, I have seen 4 companies reverse direction
after discovering that client-server is slow, unreliable, and high-cost to
maintain. Amisys is the latest. They have dumped there non-HP version due
to lack of interest from customers. I just wanted to hear other people's
feeling for the future.

Thanks,

Randy Keefer, Consultant
