Hmmm. As far as I recall, the Australian Samba pages there *is* also
a piece of software that allows mounting of PC server or peer exported
directories to the Unix file system. This seems to be only available
for Linux, though. And I have not even attempted to port it to MPE/iX.

This does not mean that this functionality would be impossible on MPE
though. Remember that the people from Quest Software have created NFS/iX
with server as well as client functionality. With their netbase shell
technology they would probably be able to also provide an SMB client on
MPE/iX (i.e. mountable PC directories).

Of course, they might need to be convinced of a real business case...

Another thing that comes to my mind from time to time (and might be
easier and probably more interesting on MPE)... It should be possible
to take the SMBCLIENT utility source code and extract some kind of API
from it (put into an NMRL or NMXL) that could allow MPE programs to
connect to an SMB server for remote file and printer access.

Any volunteers for finding useful applications for the above SMB API
and then probably starting to work on it? (I vaguely recall there was
some libsmb mentioned on the Samba web site in Oz... Might be a good
starting point).

Lars.
