I believe that what i shappening at the moment, is that CSY is exploring
relationships with 3 Junior Colleges, to get HP3000s into the teaching
environment, in return for MPE based/related curriculum. This will be a good
thing, since the use of the HP3000 to teach basic computing concepts will
make it easier to learn (right, that's a strength of the platform) and also
develop a certain amount of brand loyalty (once having used a 3000, why
would you want to switch).
This is exactly the sort of strategy that worked so well for AT&T when they
were giving away Unix.
Net result, down the road a few years, is that we will have a cohort of
rising technical managers who will regard the HP3000 with a genuine
affection, rather than a FUD-based scepticism.
