Can you print to the printer by its LDEV number? If so, then you may need to
STOPSPOOL/STARTSPOOL the device to force it to pick up the new device class.

The cable used by a printer is identical to a terminal. In fact you can
replace a printer with a terminal allowing you to use the terminal as an
inexpensive datacomm analyzer.
