I'm posting this note on behalf of my colleague Jim Breen.
I have been experiencing problems with software used to fax information
directly from an HP3000 (FAX/3000)
The package I purchased is reported to support, with a PCL option, up to
256 pages per fax. In my business, it is not unusual to fax out 150 pages
and sometimes more.
Generally, when I try to fax out over 100 pages the software fails and I
get an error condition with instructions to contact the vendor.
Admittedly, I have had successful transmission with 145 pages, etc..
There seems to be no consistency to it.
The vendor has agrees that there is an error condition and they have been
able to reproduce it, however they currently have no solution to this
problem other than to modify my software to transmit in smaller packets.
I expect my requirements will continue to expand so I am faced with a
problem for which I must find a solution. Admittedly, I can see some
advantages with transmitting in smaller packets, a modification I am
currently addressing, however, I am also disappointed and somewhat annoyed
that I should be restricted by vendor software in this manner.
I am interested in hearing from anybody else who shares my experience and
their solutions. I am also open to considering another vendor if they are
able to provide a solution to this limitation.
