Jacek,

once upon a time there was some trick to modify CATALOG.PUB.SYS in
a certain place to include an Escape Sequence that would send a number
of bytes to the two bottom lines where softkey labels are displayed.
The user would have to press Return to remove the message and get the
softkey labels back. I vagely recall that one had to make sure that
the appropriate number of bytes was sent by TELL, ideally by masking
it with a little UDC/program that ensures the proper message size.

Don't have the details at hand. Maybe someone else has?
