Hi All :)
So, Denys, what was the answer and how did you explain/justify the answer to the non-technical on the weight of a tape reel with data versus no data?

Art "Now, I'm curious! Hehehe" Bahrs
P.S. as I sit in the office as everyone else calls in "working at home due to the impending snow storm :) " hehehehe

Funny!

Of course, punched cards and paper tape changed weight when used.....

re: "Which prompts (not begs) the question, is a disk heavier when it's full of files?"

Been there, done that.

I had to testify on a related subject, whether or not a reel of computer tape weighed more when data was stored on it. (Carolian vs. Triolet)

And, back around 1977 I was taking a disk pack (similar to an HP 7925 pack) from one Burroughs site to another. The guard asked if anything was in it ... I held it up, so he could see the platters through the translucent cover, and said "see, they're empty". I was allowed to remove it from the building :)
