My DDS-3 tape drive gave up on me. Won't load tapes anymore.

Until I can afford to go buy a workable replacement tape drive I thought
I could always do the backup to a disc file rather than sending the store
to the tape drive (LDEV7).

Be careful what you wish for -- you might just get it.

My partial backup (to the DDS-3 tape drive) which normally was done in
about 10 minutes took over two HOURS(!) doing the :STORE to a disc file!

The :VSTORE took even longer than the :STORE did. <Groan>

Can anyone tell me why this backup method takes so long?

TIA,
Brian Donaldson.
