As an aside to this thread, the advantages of the hp3k powerfail
recovery capability are legend, but be sure that your machine is
properly configured for this feature.

When we upgraded to a 996-500 from a 992-400 last year, I was examining
the upgrade instructions in advance of the CE's scheduled visit, and I
noticed that one of the last procedures was to remove the system
batteries and disable battery backup! After much spluttering, moaning
and sundry obscenities, I verified with our local HP office that this
was true. We were never advised as part of the upgrade quotation and
negotiation that this would happen (maybe I should have been aware of
this, but I wasn't!!), nor were we advised that an external UPS was
required for powerfail protection for this "new" system. Fortunately,
we already had the data center protected by an external UPS, and our
disk drives are of HP and EMC manufacture which don't require
PowerTrust protection, so we dodged that bullet. The change could've
been a nasty surprise!

Beware of upgrades! Ask questions!
