Several people have suggested using ![chr(27)] in place of the actual
escape character in files that become the WELCOME message via the
command 'WELCOME <filename>', saying that WELCOME will do the de-
referencing.

Perhaps I have a case of brain lock, but I did not think de-referencing
worked in the WELCOME command and have been unable to make it work
directly in testing on my 5.5 system. Can anyone enlighten me? [You can
store your basic "picture" as a command file that ECHOs each line to a
file you construct, which then becomes the input to the WELCOME command.
But this is not what was implied in the above mentioned postings.]
