Along these lines, it has been proved that Cisco switch hardware does not
always autosense correctly. To ellimate several network related problems at
our site we hardcoded both the MPE system, using NMMGR, and the Cisco switch
the same (e.g. 100 Mbps and full duplex or 10 Mbps and half duplex).

The last company I worked for ran across very similar problems and
they seemed to be fixed (I left just as this was happening) by
setting the ports on the switches to either 10 or 100 Mbps. The
autosensing seemed to be part of the problem.
