Oh yeah, I think I wrote the code that builds the T#####.PROD.SOFTREP file and creates the tape lol. We did this as a contract job for the Software Distribution Center at HP while I was at Allegro.

For doing a SUBSYS install I think that's covered in the appropriate SOFTWARE UPDATE MANUAL for that release. I forget when AUTOINST showed up but it should be the thing you use to install OS/FOS/SUBSYS or simply add-on SUBSYS products. Here's one for T-Delta-3 from a quick search and it might be close enough to muddle through with as a hint book, but there should also be an ADD-ON products installation manual for just installing a SUBSYS tape.

http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/hp/3000/mpeV/32033-90036_R2542_MPE_VE_T-Delta-3_Software_Update_Manual_Nov85.pdf

I think the magic might be :RUN AUTOINST;INFO="ADD-ON" (as MANAGER.SYS of course).

There's no SL on the tape. The SUBSYS products that require SL segment changes include the appropriate USL files on the tape and the system SL will be updated during the process of building the customized cold load tape. Basically AUTOINST Will make you a tape and you cold load (and :RESTORE I think) from that tape once it is made.

It's been a while so I may be confused on any/every aspect of this.

With MPE-V, I believe there should be a VALIDATE program.
Maybe in TELESUP.
It will read an MPE-V tape, and show the files on it.

As I recall, the first file on a SUBSYS tape would either be the PRODLIST.PUB.SYS or a T######.PUB.SYS. (or is that just MPEiX?)

This file should lst the SUBSYSTEMS on the tape.

aha!!!!
Included is my old VALIDATE listing of MPE-40 Subsystem tape.
The first file T93525.PROD.SOFTREP would be a listng of the subsystems.

(well, I can't validate that at the moment, my 7980XC drive is not
connected)

But his is the format from VALIDATE.
Restore that T##### file to see what subs are included.

The file should be something like the following, except this is whats on an MPE 6.0 Subsys tape (MPEiX).

DEVELOPERS SUBSYSTEM

B3524A - IMAGE/SQL LOW END
HP30368 - ALLBASE SQL ASM
HP30138 - TRANSACT/IX
