A long time ago, when we install Novell on the HP3000/947 as our server, we
learned the hard way that unless we "downed" the network before the nightly
Turbostore backup, we were not storing the netware file directory so that files
could be restored when needed from the backup tape. Now at first I didn't care,
because everyone signed-off their PC, powered down and went home. We'd backup
the system at mid-night and everyone was happy.
It is my understanding from HP Response Center that even with 5.5, I still have
to shutdown the network in order to backup the file server files.
Now I do care! Any PC logged on to the network, FAX server, File Server, Client
PC, Modem Server all get aborted by the network shutdown at midnight! Every
server must be rebooted each morning. What a pain!
Does anyone know if HP is going fix this! Do they even consider it to be a
problem? Is this HP's way to force me to an NT Server? Am I the only one having
this problem?
