This is somewhat of a premature announcement, but wanted to be sure it
propagated to the newsgroup as well, bear with me a minute...

I will be on vacation 7/24-7/31 and after a couple of days back it's off
to HPWorld for another week. The list will be on auto-pilot, you're on
your own.

The main point I want to make is that the old "Macintosh is ****" thread
that upset many readers a week or so ago is *still* continuing on the
newsgroup (comp.sys.hp.mpe readers are probably well aware). I have been
reviewing all posts from the newsgroup prior to posting on the list so the
mailing list subscribers (hp3000-l) are hopefully unaware of this noise.

I thought it had about run it's course, but today there have been over a
dozen posts and only 2 have been genuine "hp3000-l" content. The rest is
fallout from the cross-posting foolishness, and it is getting worse. But
I can't very well review postings when I'm not here, and I don't want to
silence the newsgroup's legitimate input, so effective some time next
Tuesday evening (7/23) I will have to open the gate to the newsgroup.

It is quite likely that more "junk" noise will reappear on the list. I beg
your patience in riding this out -- just delete it unread and don't let it
affect your view of the value of this forum. My hands are tied, I don't see
any acceptable solution other than holding newsgroup postings for a long
period of time which isn't fair to the legitimate readers of the newsgroup.
There may be some noise, but you have been spared 6865 lines of garbage to
date, so bear with us.
