Awhile ago there was a spirited discussion on this
list about the marketing piece put together from
comments made by Carly F., Duane Z., and Anne L.
at their HPWorld'00 presentations.

Previous to that discussion I had posted some
information regarding a potential new customer in
Southern CA.

Well folks, I am taking up your valuable time with
this posting to let you know how things worked out
and to discuss an interesting convergence regarding
these two issues. There are 3 acts to this drama.

First
-----
We were the selected vendor in a competitive
bid process. The second choice was a competing solution
running on unix using informix as the dbms. This brings
another "new to the HPe3000 platform" customer and
eliminates an existing competitor site. Not to mention
keeping another unix installation from occurring.

Second
------
Questions arose from someone high up in the
organization because of comments from a colleague about
the HP3000 (notice the name...) being an antiquated platform.

Third
-----
The evaluation team at the customer used the marketing pieces
from the e3000 web site to put together a very nice package
of information to support the decision to acquire software
running on an HPe3000. They used the Carly/Duane/Anne piece
extensively to prove the HP Corporate commitment to the platform.

My Summary
==========
* I am thankful for CSY's efforts in putting this information
together. Not only for the potential business it might bring
to the platform, but for this specific case where it played
a big part in getting closure to a new customer for QSS.

* Regardless of what we believe, the proof of viability is
played out in actual usage of this material. Here we have
an actual case of where a new customer was influenced
positively by these statements of commitment.

* Long live the HPe3000!
