i'll add my 'amen' to that!  if you're un-tarring a file where the files about
to be unarchived already exist - you're going to run into trouble if you
don't purge first.  does tar have a 'purge' option?  i don't recall there
being one.  as 'we' spend more time in posix-land (which ain't quite
disneyland 8-), this could be the source of annoyance....     - d
