I believe the answer is yes.
You may want to see if you can ping the printer.
I remember about 8 years ago, as I was learning some about
TCP, I attempted to print from eXegeSys in Salt Lake City
to my son's Jr. High in Orem (about 40 mi away). Printed
just fine.
But now I think the School district got wiser and closed
that up. Many printers today, besides the data port
(9100 usually on HPLJs), also have telnet and web access
to the printer controls. I don't think you want those
open.
