This is pretty well written up in the manuals, which are available on line,
and there is help within the ftp client, and remotehelp for help on the ftp
server, but I understand that it sure is much easier to have someone tell
you just what you need to know. Tusar's reply is a start, literally.
FTP.ARPA.SYS 'ipaddress' should give you a prompt for a username. Then you
need a username and any password that are valid on the ftp server you are
connecting to. So if you are sending to an NT ftp server, you need a valid
NT username and password, which I can provide more detail on if that is your
target. The admin of said machine also ought to be able to help.

Once connected and logged on, you have some things to consider. There are
commands that affect what you see. 'debug' will echo back what the remote
server is executing, which can be comforting to know that something actually
is happening. And, 'hash' will display hash marks for each buffer
successfully sent; on MPE, these display one line full at a time. Not quite
as helpful as a progress meter, but at least you can tell that something is
happening.

Is the file flat ASCII, which is the default, or binary, or bytestream? If
binary, then issue 'binary'; if bytestream, then issue 'bytestream'.

Then you can use verb 'put' or 'send' (they are synonymous), following by
the filename on the 3000. If it is an MPE filename, then that's straight
forward. If it is an HFS filename, it must be escaped by ./ a dot and a
forward slash. Next comes the target filename, as it appears to your host
system. Again, your ftp server admin can help with what you can and cannot
do.

This assumes that you are coming from MPE 55P4 or better, with current
patches. hash is a recent addition. Also, I am not trying to guess what you
are sending to. For instance, for sending to MVS or better on an IBM or
plug-compatible mainframe, there are several other considerations, such as
LRECL (record length). HTH. Let me know if I can fill in more detail, or if
I have forgotten anything.

Subject: FTP INFO

Dear readers,

I need info on how to ftp from the H-P 957 out to a server on my network. I
know little or nothing about how to do this. I would appreciate any info
you might give me .
