How many PCs and MACs? If not too many, you might use a 3000 with
netware and
appletalk as the server - note: I have only read/heard about this
combination,
not done it my self.

At Xavier, we use Netware 4 to do this, but are planning/discssing a
move to NT
instead.

Take your pick. As usual, "best" depends on what you want to do, how
many,
what vintage PC and MAC, and your staffing/expertise for the server NOS
technology.

We have a network of several hundred machines - Some MACS, Some PCs,
HP3000's, an HP9000 several SUN boxes. We selected Banyon because it
would support all of the traffic and it isn't as "chatty" as Novell's
IPX protocol. We have a WAN and subnets in Ireland, Colorado, Texas,
Singapore and Hong Kong. If you want more information please ask. I
choose not to identify my company(s) to everybody at this time.
