Well, all I can say is this... if anyone can explain to me why the
world doesn't run MPE like it runs UNIX, _AND_ why lots of the listers
here paid lotsa money for the POSIX developers kit to get _UNIX_ software
onto their MPE machines, I will gladly listen to the bashing.

Wouldn't it mean anything to you that HP seems to be supporting the
9000 more so than the 3000? Could they be thinking that UNIX has a
brighter future than MPE? MPE is good, granted, but many commercial
UNIces are also fine pieces of work. Personally, having drudged around
with WinNT servers and workstations as I have done, I cannot see how many
of the listers here can even live with their Windows NT environments
compared to UNIX type systems. If one can live with WinNT (as apparently
many here do) then how can one bash UNIX for being much less than MPE,
since WinNT (IMHO) still has a long way to go to be a match for UNIX.
Even Microsoft uses UNIX servers for e-mail, DNS, and important stuff
(WinNT is only used for gopher, ftp, and web) according to the ISP FAQ on
http://remarkable.amazing.com/internet
