You can set a gateway for "@" with the default gateway as the gateway
address and it will work fine. I do this with my network here and I
am running multiple Class C addresses subnetted, some on Ethernet and
some on Token Ring.
Hope this helps you.

Is there any creative way out of this situation? Can I point the HP at
a default router for all traffic? Our guess is that wouldn't work
because the HP appears to use static routes. Is there relief if I can
get to MPE/iX 5.5?
TIA for your assistance.
