Some time ago, a command file I had developed for this was published
in Interex's Interact magazine. I don't recall exactly when (it was in
the "User's Forum" section), but I'm pretty sure it predates what is
available on-line at www.interex.com. The command file was developed
at a prior job and isn't in use at my current job. I may be able to
dig up a copy somewhere if anyone is interested.
As best I recall, my command file provided messages in addition to the
welcome message - our welcome message had some legal stuff and had to
always be displayed. There were individual messages for the system,
account and group. If the file containing the message had a certain
file code, the user would be logged off after viewing the message -
useful during times of maintenance.
