Thanks to everyone who responded to my networking question.  I think the
problem was my networking ignorance.  I had a thin lan segment with three
terminators...and only two are allowed.  So for now I've used the extra
ethernet card on my 3000 (not the one in the multi-IO card that the DTC's
are on).  The DTC performance is fine and I can connect to the 3000 over
the network.

Some time in the near future we'll probably need to get a router or
something and figure out how to connect the building with the DTC16 into
the campus network, but for now that's way over my head.
