RR,

I don't know exactly how to do it (the pipple in charge won't let ancient me
even look at the Exchange server's dials & switches), but what you have to
do is teach Exchange to allow relaying from your hpe3000's IP address.

<rant!>
And it must be Rocket Science!: our network brainiac recently moved our
Exchange server to a new IP address, hosing several message portals in the
process, including the e3k's. After lots of loud complaints, they managed
to enable intra-domain mail for both e3k's, but somehow relaying now works
for only one of them (and they're only one IP address apart).

And after a month of continued complaints, all I get is "I can't see
anything different", and they just don't seem to appreciate that you might
want to send mail to your pager, cell phone, private address, etc., or
realize that this is the system that produces their paychecks.

I guess it's either so obvious they're overlooking it or so subtle it's
invisible.

That or the kids just don't appreciate the value of being promptly informed
when fregzample a backup takes too long (prolly a bad tape). So I'm now
considering re-installing the DTC so I can hook up a modem so I can go back
to the way we did it in the 80s: numeric message to my pager. Progress?
