Actually, the files I am interested in are the ones that start with 'FAC'.
These are spool files.  The same setup works great in a similar program that
is still in FORTRAN 66 (less the OPENs and CLOSEs).

Not a Fortran expert, but probably either or both of
1) you didn't run the program?  ;-)
2) the output files are temporary; you need to save what you want saved.
