You could use grep, which should be on every 5.0 (or later) system.

Example, searching @.FOO.FUM for "fred":

   :sh.hpbin.sys
   grep fred /FUM/FOO/*

Or, <plug>, MAGNET from Lund Performance Solutions:

   magnet "[log in to unmask] fred -dash"

(info from http://www.lund.com)

Also, if you have MPEX, I think there's a search tool within it.
